Communication Skills: Become that Pillar

The world economy today is a very complex web of resources aligned with a vision of creating an advantage that is financial, competitive or secure a future. Corporations, governments and individuals are striving to move ahead in this race for dominance. There has never been such intensity in the battle for supremacy and this is only the beginning. Fortunately or otherwise, there is no end in-sight for this race unlike the competitive ones at tournaments where a winner is proclaimed. But, there is a similarity between these races. The fact that no one is a winner forever and the zenith has ever expanding boundaries which were never dreamed of.

So, what does an organization, government or individual have in common to be motivated. It is – Success. Success in every endeavor taken up, in every challenge faced and in every record broken, is what drives the human race, to be a step ahead of the last. As a famous person has put it so eloquently, “It's the question that drives us”, the answer to the question is incidental.

So, how does this so called 'Success' come about? It is a result of planning, understanding, producing, implementing and reviewing an idea. An idea can shape the future. This future is sold to achieve financial, competitive or a future securing advantage. But, in order to go from inception to result, a an individual who can communicate the idea & thought process in a productive and vision oriented manner is required. Therefore, we can confidently say that the foundation of any great idea is communication.

In today's professional environment, communication skills play a pivotal role. This role will only continue to grow. An employee in an organization is a building block. Like in a building, each employee provides their own area of strength for successful completion of the result or the idea. But, the role of communication skills is like the 'adhesive mortar' which holds the building together and sustains the result. Without the 'adhesive mortar' the building will collapse, and so will any organization, business or group.

Any organization will want the best resources, those who have the technical skills, expertise, experience and foresight to develop. However, this combination would not evolve into a successful venture without proper communication channels. A person with good communication skills will have the ability to understand, conceive, implement and review a process, strategy, tool, program or an idea for obtaining the result and also to take inputs or give inputs which will only enrich the end result.

The modern day professional is very highly capable of understanding new concepts if taught in the appropriate manner. A good set of communication skills (Oral and written) will give the individual an edge over others by means of the ability to express and understand the subject in a professional and timely manner. Events or practices such as promotions, mentoring, business development, sales, innovation, bonus, growth and sustainability will happen to people who can work effectively and get the work done effectively, and in both the cases communication skill is paramount.

Communication skills act as ladders and bridges that connect with others and reach new heights of success. Having good communication skills (Oral, Written, Vocabulary) will be of immense help to anyone, be it education, business, employment, innovation, teaching and learning. It will give you the strength to become a pillar of Success.
